Sun Coast Press is a division of a family-owned set of newspapers in Southwest Florida.

Derek Dunn-Rankin created Sun Coast Media Group in 1977 and later
Daystar Communications, including a small amount of commercial printing.

The daily paper of 125 years, The Charlotte Sun and Weeklies have steadily grown in circulation and new titles in the Heartland areas of Florida have been acquired. Lake Wales, Bartow, Lake Placid and Sebring were latter added to the family-owned business. Sun Coast Press has grown rapidly with superior quality, diverse offerings and extraordinary customer service.

About Us

Growth is Our Goal

In the summer of 2009 Sun Coast Press was created to take on the need of a cold offset printer that offers superior customer service and print at affordable prices. Being a family owned newspaper we understand how important it is to meet the needs of small to large publications. There are presses in 2 locations with packaging and trucking running daily from Miami to Orlando and beyond.

Our Mission to Our Community

From community newspapers and niche publications to high school, college and university newspapers, and our experience, coupled with flexibility prove to be a winning combination. The team does prefer the old fashioned way to create each partnership with an onsite visit. Our sales team can discuss the best options for paper, page counts and color to maximize each publication with value to the customer.

Meet the family!

Sales and Support
  • John Black
  • Sales Manager
  • John has been with Sun Coast Press since 2009 but is no stranger to the newspaper business. John’s dad worked in the newspaper business, which is probably why he gravitated toward this profession. He’s originally from Maine and received a degree in Journalism/Mass Communication from the University of Maine. While in college John was part of the Maine Campus newspaper staff and has worked for weekly and daily newspapers since graduating college. John moved to Florida to work with the Bradenton Herald in the Sports Department since his background was news/sports reporter, copy editor and page designer editor before starting in sales. In John’s “spare time” he enjoys playing Rotisserie League Baseball with a group of friends, many whom he’s known since childhood. John also enjoys jogging (when his knees allow it), traveling and being part of the American Bulldog Rescue.
